The obverse side of the coin is stamped with the name of the orchestra featured in German, and features a montage of instruments representing Austria’s rich musical and cultural heritage. The reverse side of the coin features the image of the “Great Organ”, found in the ‘Golden Hall’, or Musikverein, in Vienna’s Concert Hall. The country of issue, legal tender status, and the coins’ purity are also stamped on the reverse side of the coin. The Gold Vienna Philharmonic coin is unique, in that it is one of the few gold coins in the world to be stamped and circulated as two different currencies. The coins original production was stamped as the Austrian Shilling, however after Austria’s joining of the European Union in 2002, the coins were circulated with the financial backing of the Euro.
