Description
The United States Mint has always been known for its innovation and forward thinking, while at the same time still showing an appreciation and respect for our nation’s history. These characteristics are all found in the gold American Eagle coins. Originally minted in 1986, the gold American Eagle has a fineness of .9167 fine gold, or 22 karat.
The obverse side of the coin bears an image originally designed for the United States mint over a century ago by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, and features the image of Lady Liberty confidently holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The reverse side carries the image of a bald eagle with its wings outstretched, flying towards its nest.
